The University Counseling Center Rijeka (SSC) is a University constituent set up with the aim of providing the University’s students and staff with different forms of support and counseling. All of its services are entirely free of charge. The SSC includes a Phsychological Couseling Center, an Office for Students with Disabilities, and a Career Office.
Office for Students with Disabilities
Although the ideals of equal access to education and protection from all kinds of discrimination, including prejudice toward disability, are ensured by the Croatian Constitution, high-school students with disabilities often choose not to pursue further education. The underlying causes are aplenty: from architectural barriers, over their private doubts and societal beliefs about what people with disabilities can achieve, to inadequate support systems at most universities. Striving to provide present and future students with disabilities with everything needed for excellent and equally accessible education, the University of Rijeka has upgraded its University Counseling Center with a much-needed Office for Students with Disabilities.
Our office supports students with:
Visual impairements
Hearing impairements
Physical disability
Multiple damages
Chronic illnesses
Learning disabilities (dislexia, disgraphia, and like)
Other medical conditions or difficulties that might affect the course of their studies
If you are a disabled student, contact us if you:
Require information about your rights to: customized examination practices when taking the entrance exam and other exams throughout your studies; direct enrollment; exemption from study fees; direct placement at a student dorm; reimbursed transport expenses
Require peer support (a student-assistant)
Need information about the possibility of attaining a disability grant
Require specialized transport from your place of residence in Rijeka or its surrounding area to the faculty, and vice versa
Require digitalized or customized course literature
Require specialized equipment (manual scanners, desktop or manual electric maginifiers, Braille notebooks, small laptops with built-in voice units and screen readers, and like)
Psyhological counseling office
Studying, like any other part of life, brings about various problems and challenges. Some of them we can easily deal with, either alone or with the help of our families and friends. Others, however, greatly interfere in our everyday lives, and we come to need professional aid.
The University Counseling Center’s Psychological Office offers students and other staff members professional the psychological aid needed to improve the quality of their lives and help them realize their academic goals.
Career Office
The University Counseling Center’s Career Office provides our students with professional aid related to managing their careers, supports them in developing entrepreneurial skills, teaches them how to increase their prospects on the labor market, and connects them with potential employers.
The Career Office organizes various activities for coordinating students and providing them with reliable support, including:
• Counseling activities – individual and group counseling
• Informational activities – programs for connecting students with potential employers, employer and student databases, professional training for students
• Educational activities – workshops, lectures, public discussions
• Research activities
