Within the scope of the 9th Session of the Croatian-Chinese Commission for Scientific and Technological Cooperation and the selection of joint research projects for the period 2019-2021, in cooperation with the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Croatia, a meeting with the Chinese delegation was held at the University of Rijeka Rectorate on Tuesday, October 29, 2019.
The delegation included:
- Mr. Chen Linhao, Deputy Director, Department for International Cooperation
- Mr. Zhou Yu, Director of the Department of Eurasia, Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Science and Technology
- Ms. Gong Haihua, Director of the Department of European Affairs, International Cooperation Office, Chinese Academy of Sciences
- Ms. Sun Xueping, desk officer, Department of Eurasia, International Cooperation Office, Ministry of Science and Technology.
The esteemed guests were welcomed by Prof. Snježana Prijić-Samaržija, Ph.D., UNIRI Rector, Prof. Marta Žuvić, Ph.D., Vice-Rector for Quality Assurance and Enhancement, Prof. Alen Ružić, M.D., Ph.D., Vice-Rector for Science and Arts, and Prof. Saša Zelenika, Ph.D., Rector’s Assistant for International Cooperation and Strategic Partnerships. Also present at the meeting were Mr. Staša Skenžić, Head of the International Cooperation Office, Ministry of Science and Education, H.E. Mr. Ante Simonić, M.D., Ph.D., President of the University of Rijeka China-Croatia Cooperation Committee, accompanied by his wife Mrs. Rita Zhao, Ph.D., member of the Committee.
The delegation’s visit focused on the possibilities of cooperation in the field of tourism, medicine, the twinning of local communities, investment opportunities in Primorsko-goranska County, academic cooperation, etc.
After the meeting held at the Rectorate, the esteemed guests made their way to the UNIRI Campus, i.e. the Faculty of Civil Engineering, where they were welcomed by Prof. Nevenka Ožanić, Ph.D., Rector’s Assistant for Strategic Infrastructure Projects on Campus, who also briefly informed the guests about the RISK project. The Chinese delegation also visited the supercomputer BURA, accompanied by Prof. Lado Kranjčević, Ph.D., Rector’s Assistant for Information Technologies.
Their visit to Rijeka ended with an informal gathering with the representatives of the Rijeka 2020 Ltd. and ECOC program.
