Working Meeting with Ambassador Demcsák

H.E. Dr. Csaba Demcsák, Ambassador of Hungary to the Republic of Croatia, visited the University of Rijeka Rectorate on Thursday, July 16, 2020, accompanied by Mr. János Dezső, Counselor and Director of the Hungarian Institute in Zagreb, Cultural Department of the Embassy of Hungary.

Distinguished guests were welcomed by Prof. Snježana Prijić-Samaržija, Ph.D., Madam Rector, and Prof. Alen Ružić, M.D., Ph.D., Director of the Clinical Hospital Center (KBC) Rijeka, along with Prof. Péter Hegyi, M.D., Ph.D., Director of the Center for Translational Medicine at the University of Pécs, who is staying in Rijeka from 11 to 18 July.

The meeting focused on further cooperation between the University of Rijeka and the University of Pécs in the field of biomedicine, with special emphasis on translational medicine, the establishment of a joint research center, internationalization, circulation of people, and knowledge transfer.

The new director of the KBC Rijeka Prof. Ružić emphasized the establishment of a university hospital as one of the most important strategic goals, which would enable better organization and implementation of teaching, and this need is also recognized in the new Strategy of the University of Rijeka.

Professor Hegyi stressed the importance of education and internationalization, and especially mobility and knowledge exchange because there is no possibility of progress and the development of competitiveness without it.

Given the numerous shortcomings and the current restrictive rules for staff and student exchange (e.g. Erasmus), Madam Rector Prijić-Samaržija and Ambassador Demcsák agreed on the need to introduce a new model for the exchange of staff, students and scientists, which will contribute to internationalization and enable better education and exchange of ideas and knowledge.
